Abstract
This study aims to highlight strategies for developing Arabic language skills among non-native speakers in light of the communicative approach, which is considered one of the modern approaches to language teaching. The research stems from the problem of weak linguistic competence among learners of Arabic in Arabic schools in Kumasi Ghana, due to the reliance on traditional teaching methods that focus on grammar without employing the language in authentic communicative situations. The researcher adopted the descriptive-analytical method in conducting this study. The research was applied to a sample of Arabic language learners in Kumasi Ghana through an observation checklist. The study reviewed the most prominent communicative strategies for developing the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, such as role-playing and the use of dialogue and discussion techniques. The findings indicate that the communicative approach contributes to improving the linguistic performance of the sample participants, enhancing their ability to use Arabic functionally, and increasing their motivation to learn. The researcher recommends the necessity of training teachers of Arabic for non-native speakers in communicative strategies and incorporating these strategies into educational curricula.
