Research article
This study explores Ferdinand de Saussure’s contributions to the development of foreign language teaching methodologies through his foundational linguistic theories, particularly his view of language as a system of signs and relations. The research shows that Saussure’s ideas gave rise to structuralism approaches that influenced language teaching, especially the Audio-Lingual Method, and paved the way for applied linguistics. His influence continues to appear in modern communicative approaches. The study concludes that Saussure’s linguistic thought provides a solid theoretical basis for building scientifically grounded language teaching curricula, while emphasizing the need to reinterpret his ideas in light of contemporary linguistic and pedagogical developments
