Book Chapter
This chapter discusses the development of an equitable and inclusive community engagement and communication strategy for solid waste source separation in the city of Accra. Multiple methods for data collection were adopted for the study. A random and purposive sampling techniques were employed to select 1617 participants for the study. Different analytical approaches were used to analyze data from various sources such as interviews, questionnaires, documents, and social mapping. Based on the findings, a Micro-Meso-Macro (3M) model for community engagement and communication was developed to support project implementation. The model is framed within the power-interest dynamics of community members. The study revealed that an effective implementation guided by the 3M model, along with proper monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, has significant potential to bring about desirable behavioral changes among city dwellers in solid waste source separation.
