| dc.description.abstract | The rise of has brought about a transformation to how consumers interact with brands and vice versa. Instagram has emerged as one of the most dominant platforms for influencer-driven marketing in Ghana. As brands increasingly collaborate with influencer to endorse their products or services, questions arise regarding how their content shapes consumer purchase intentions within a digitally evolving society. This study aims to explore how Instagram influencer marketing shapes purchase intentions of consumer in Ghana with focus on the perceptions, interpretations and psychological processes that guide consumer responses to influencer content. Guided by the Source Credibility Theory, the study examines how trustworthiness, credibility and attractiveness of influencers shape consumers’ attitudes and decision-making processes. A qualitative exploratory design was employed to gain detailed understanding of consumer experiences. Purposive sampling was adopted to select 12 active Instagram users who follow at least an influencer and interact with their content regularly. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings indicated that Ghanaian consumers perceive Instagram influencers as credible when they align their lifestyle to the brands they promote. Trust and credibility emerged as important determinants of purchase intentions with participants emphasizing on honest reviews, expertise in product categories and visible use of the promoted products or services. Cultural relatability and emotional connection also shaped participants’ interpretation of influencer messages and their eventual purchase decisions. The study concludes that Instagram influencer marketing has a substantial impact on consumer purchase intentions in Ghana, primarily driven by perception of credibility and authenticity. The result contributes to existing literature by offering context-specific insights into influencer-consumer dynamics in a developing digital market. The study presents practical implications for marketers, influencers and policy makers to enhance ethical practices and build consumer trust. Recommendations for future study include; exploring influencer marketing other social media platforms such as X and TikTok and also examine diverse demographic groups. | |
